Subject: Press Statement from Stella Creasy MP re EMD Cinema

For immediate release Wednesday 22nd May 2013

Reacting to the news that the National Planning Inspectorate has upheld the decision of Waltham Forest Council to refuse the UCKG permission to convert the EMD cinema into a church Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy said:

"As a local resident, I'm overwhelmed with relief at the news the planning inspector has decided to uphold the decision to refuse permission to the UCKG to convert our much loved cinema into a church for the second time. This is welcome news for all who never gave up on the promise this building holds for Walthamstow and the hard work of many activists, especially the Waltham Forest cinema trust, the council and the mcguffins in making the case for why we should restore our cinema. I urge the UCKG to accept the settled will of the Walthamstow public and honour the decision of the inspector by selling the building back so that we can get on with the next stage of our work bringing the EMD back to life- I pledge to work along with many others who have fought since 2003 to secure this property to continue to fight to save our cinema.
